So This Is Freedom
DEEPER STILL...
My uncle the mountain climber...what a guy. He took my husband and me on a hike to the top of a peak in Ouray, Colorado. 1999 or 2000, before we even had kids. Some views are that unforgettable and just "live with you." I almost missed this one. Steep slope with only a foot-wide path, snaking up the side near the precipice... so high there was no growth, only earth to fall down, for a really really long way (if we fell, which to me seemed more and more likely...) I was out in front of everyone. I froze with fear. Right behind me, he urged me gently, "You've come all this way, you don't want to miss the view now. You haven't seen it but I have, trust me, you don't want to miss it!" I wanted to move. I couldn't.
He somehow got around me on that narrow path and said, "Just follow my footsteps. One at a time." Clear lakes and a scene so pristine, beyond description... and this amazing freedom. Thanks, Uncle Dave.
That's what Jesus does for me, the One Love who always leads me through the worst and to a view I didn't imagine...who has already seen the mountain view I don't want to miss. Self-condemnation, misjudgments from others, fear, despair...they always try to get on our backs. But they can't be the focus on this path, they're too heavy for this path.
I invite you, with me, to let it go. Daily. Minute by minute. Only the love and grace of our Savior. Do you want to see the view??
So This Is Freedom
Condemnation's never satisfied
Up until it sees me cry
That's the way our interactions go.
Heaping guilt upon my shoulders,
Unnecessary boulders,
Telling me I am all alone
It wants me to own it
And shape it and feel it,
To walk with it on my back
But I've got to let go,
It's too heavy to hold..
God loves me the way that I am.
So this is freedom
Come on, you want some?
So this is real love
Come see the mountain view,
It's callin' you
Come and take a chance with me,
Unafraid of honesty.
We might just discover pure gold
Wisdom wasn't born from our hands,
It doesn't grow from our demands
It's more than what we think we know.
It's calling and waiting for us to be silent
And listen to what it says
To learn from the Word
Who gave us our birth,
Find the Treasure, let go of the rest.
So this is freedom
Come on, you want some?
So this is real love
Come see the mountain view,
It's callin' you
Find rest, my soul.
Only one thing is needed.
Find rest, my soul.
Only one thing is needed,
Only one Love...
So this is freedom
Come on, you want some?
So this is real love
Come see the mountain view,
It's callin' you, it's callin' you to freedom
Come on, you want some?
So this is real love, real love
Come see the mountain view,
It's callin' you
Find rest, my soul.
Only one thing is needed,
Only one Love..
